Whatever He Tells You To Do, Do It!

John 2:1-8

We all know the story of the wedding at Cana. Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding and they ran out of wine. Mary comes to Jesus and tells him that they’ve run out of wine. Jesus’ reply was a little comical. He tells her that it’s not my problem. It’s not my time yet. Mary’s response was equally comical. She does what moms do and ignores him and turns to the servants and tells them whatever Jesus tells you to do, just do it.

Whatever Jesus says to do, just do it. Jesus is minding his business and enjoying the wedding. I’m assuming this because, well, it’s a wedding. Who goes to a wedding and doesn’t enjoy themselves outside of the jaded ex that crashes the party? In the middle of him enjoying the lively conversation and tapping his foot to the music, his mother comes to involve him in something that seemingly doesn’t concern him.

How many times has God come to you to get involved in something that appears not to have anything to do with you? Let’s go further. This is Jesus’ first miracle. But, prior to this, no one knows who Jesus really is except his family. He has been preparing all his life to be the savior of the world. So, how does he present himself to the world? He turns water into wine.

What has God been preparing you to do? God has laid something on the hearts of every man, woman and child in the world. All we have to do is say yes. But, while this thing is brewing in your heart and you say yes, He starts preparing you because your time will come. Jesus’ time had come and he hesitated. We tend to think that the thing that God has laid on our hearts is for our own enrichment. Something to use to make our own lives, our own families, circles, ect. more fruitful in the things of God. Or, we prepare and prepare and when our time comes, we think that we are still not prepared. That our hour has not yet come.

That’s ok what you said but, God lays a thing in your heart so that you can be a benefit to the kingdom. So that you can perform a work for His people. That means that you are going to have to step out of your bubble and present your gift to the world. Now, that doesn’t mean that everyone is called to a grand stage. It means that you have to come out of your comfort zone and be a gift to your environment. Maybe your stage is your job, your neighborhood, your family. To be a light in the darkness. God will come to you while you are enjoying yourself at the wedding and say now! For us thickheaded people, He will put a person in our path to be a Mary and ignore what we said and direct traffic to make a way for us to put our task in motion.

Whatever Jesus says to do, do it. When He says go do what I have been preparing you for, you need to do it. He would not set you in motion if you are not prepared or have the capacity for it. Just do it. If you have faith that all things are working for your good, do it. If you have faith that He has begun a good work in you and will complete it, do it. We need to push forward in the confidence that He has given you. It doesn’t matter who is there because whoever is there is supposed to be there to be a witness to your gift. It doesn’t matter what you have because whatever you have is all you need. The bible says that God will supply all our needs. That doesn’t just mean clothes, housing, food and currency. It also applies to your gift and your work.

What God lays in our hearts ususally seems like it’s bigger than we are. More involved than we think we have the capacity. But, when God gives you a thing, He makes sure you grow into that thing to do what He has called you to do. So, when He says go, you step out and you go. You might tell Him what does this have to do with me? But, He will ignore you and give you a push because your hour is come. Have people been coming to you concerning the same thing? It’s your time. Your hour is come! Tell the servants to fill the waterpots and pour! ~ Selah
