Self-inflicted Wounds

WARNING! Go and get your band-aids, bandages, gauze pads and tape. I’m about to step on some toes and open some stitches.

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. (Romans 8:37)

So, why then, people of God, if we are more than conquerors, have we adopted a victim mentality? Not all of us, of course, but a lot of us. How many times have you asked yourself why negative things happen to you? Do you consistently blame other people, things or even Satan? (“The devil is busy.” No, he’s not! You are!) At what point do you stop and ask, “Is it me?”  Should you get to that point, do you change?

So many times we find ourselves in negative situations of our own making. We set events in motion that we know are going to cause chaos but we push forward anyway. We ask God why He won’t help because we fail to see our part in it. We wonder when the hurting will stop but won’t ask ourselves, “Am I causing this?” We’re perfectly fine, after all.

When things are continually going bad, we need to step outside of the situation and take a look at ourselves. More times than you think we are creating the thing that plagues us. Flirting with someone you know or hope or suspect will cause a problem in your current relationship because you keep changing the rules. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. (James 1:8 KJV) Performing spiteful actions to get a rise out of someone just because it makes you feel better when they blow. Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him. (Proverbs 26:27) Judging a person that hasn’t wronged you because they remind you of someone who wronged you. Judge not, that ye be not judged. (Matthew7:1) Keeping secrets from your loved ones and telling lies to everyone about everything. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. (Colossians 3:9-10 KJV) Cutting people off and hurting them before they can hurt you. Stop it!

These things are operations of a victim mentality and worse – wavering faith. WE ARE MORE THAN CONQUERORS!

Ephesians 6:12 states: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. What does that mean? It means that there are forces out there whose sole purpose is to keep you distracted. To prevent you from doing what God called you to do. Until you own up to your mess, ask God for forgiveness and then forgive yourself, you will always be at odds with everyone and everything. You will always be a victim. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. (1 Peter 2:9 KJV)

Change your thinking before God changes it for you. God has a plan for us all and He will get his glory from you one way or another. Your arms are too short to box with Him. You will lose but praise God that you will come out better, stronger, faster. ~ Selah
