Holding Down What Holds You Down

Where I come from we referred to our best friends or girlfriend or boyfriend as a “ride or die.” There was a song and everything. But, what or who are you riding or dying for? What if you are ride or die but your ride or die is not and simply needs to…die?

Many times we find ourselves spinning our wheels going nowhere fast because we have allowed ourselves to be a ride or die to what simply needs to die. It could be a person, a thing or an idea. If you sit back to think about it, God’s been showing you it’s true nature and you’ve chosen to ignore it. You’ve been wandering like the Israelites because of your disobedience. Wondering why you can’t progress or your progress is slow. It’s because you are nurturing and holding on to something that needs to die! God has already told you it needs to go. So, let it go!

Perhaps God has shown you it’s nature and completely excised it from your life and you are mourning the loss or looking for a way to restore it to your life. Ask yourself what you are missing? It took a toll on your health. You were constantly worrying about it. It was physically hurting you. It was emotionally hurting you. What are you missing?  God will never put anyone or anything in your path that will hurt you. He will also not allow anyone or anything to benefit from His promise for you that shouldn’t be there.

I know that is not what you want to hear. I know it’s a hard thing to do. In Ezra 4 we learn about the adversaries that tried to hinder the building of God’s temple. At first, they tried to get in on the inside and when that didn’t work they hired people to frustrate the progress. This story is indicative of the people and things that try to hinder our progress. The enemy can’t stop you from going down your path of purpose but he figures that he can slow you down. Slow your progress so that you miss the mark. He sends people and things into your life that are difficult to resist. But, press! I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:14 KJV) ~ Selah
