Society has a funny way of being judgmental without being judgmental. Subliminal messages meant to steer our minds this way and that. It’s exhausting scrolling through social media. Why? Perhaps it’s because we’re watching everyone’s highlight reels and subconsciously wanting to do whatever cool thing they are doing. Maybe it’s the political ads and opinions from everyone bombarding our minds. Or perhaps seeing outfits that are so appealing we’re imagining ourselves in them.
In all of that scrolling and swiping we don’t realize a seed has been planted. If something strikes you a certain way, before you know it, you’ve modified your habits to fit that persona. If you see those things enough, you may begin to even shape your life and beliefs after what you are seeing. Yikes! Sadly, there are people out there right now ending marriages to chase a fictional life they saw someone else living. Someone is quitting a job that will lead them to destiny because someone planted a seed of a promise of fast money.
There’s someone walking away from a calling because someone else’s looks more attractive. We know these people. We’ve heard of these people. There’s a saying that used to go around; “Just because they make it in your size, doesn’t mean that you should wear it.” Have any of you said that phrase? I have. Sometimes I think about the sayings that we use and I begin to laugh. It’s amazing how they could also be used in describing the things of God. All things really do work for the good of them that love the Lord and are called to His purpose. (Romans 8:28 Selah paraphrase)
I began to think about how we try to bargain with God for the gifts we want. Sometimes we’re not content with what he gave us. Some people even walk away from God because they did not receive the same anointing as someone else. Before you decide that God made a mistake with what He gave you, consider this: what we have been given is tailor made just for us. What’s for you is for you. Like having an outfit that’s tailor made for you. If I have an outfit made to my specifications, it won’t fit my friend. We may wear the same general dress size. However, if my outfit is tailored to fit my curves, it would look sad on her.
Psalm 139: 14 (KJV) says I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. God has given you the set of gifts that are perfect just for your purpose. Your gifts compliment you and your work. God is developing you in those gifts for your good as well as for the good of His will. We all have a purpose that is important to the kingdom. When we try to move in someone else’s calling, you are not just unsuccessful but you can cause more harm than good to God’s people.
Just like ill-fitting clothes, ill-fitting gifts are not a good look. Be content in your call. Ask God to show you how to develop it. Ask Him to show you the value and the importance for you to carry it. For those of you that are afraid that your call might be bigger than you can bear, don’t be afraid. Take comfort in the fact that God believes that you can carry it. Remember, it has been tailor made just for you. If God believes it, why don’t you? Wear your own clothes. You are a child of the Most High! ~ Selah
