Remembering God's Faithfulness While You Wait

I’ve found myself spending a lot of time thinking about seasons of waiting. Not the kind of waiting that sits still and does nothing, but the kind of waiting God often calls us into.

One thing I’m learning is that waiting is not a stationary activity in the life of faith.

Faith requires action.

Just as faith without works is dead, waiting without action is simply standing around. Yet many of us approach waiting as though we do one thing, then sit back until God responds. But biblical waiting is different. It’s waiting with expectation.

Think about waiting for a package to arrive. You know something is coming, but you don’t stop living your life and sit by the front door all day. You continue with your responsibilities while making room for what you’re expecting.

That’s how we are called to wait on God.

As we reset, we need to reframe our understanding of waiting. Waiting seasons are often seasons of evaluation, pruning, preparation, healing, and alignment. God is doing work in us even when it feels like nothing is happening.

This week, I’ve been reflecting on the importance of remembering God’s faithfulness while we wait.

Recently, I was the victim of a hit-and-run accident. Thankfully, I’m fine. There were cameras, and the driver was identified. But while I was waiting for the police to arrive, my thoughts drifted toward this very topic.

Imagine driving a car while only looking straight ahead. Never checking your rearview mirror. Never glancing at your side mirrors.

It would be dangerous.

You wouldn’t know what was happening around you. You wouldn’t know when it was safe to change lanes. You’d lose valuable perspective about the road behind you.

Our faith journey works much the same way.

If we never look back, we won’t appreciate how far God has brought us. We won’t remember the prayers He answered, the doors He opened, or the trials He carried us through. We’ll miss the lessons that can strengthen us for what lies ahead.

Psalm 77:11-12 reminds us:

"I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings."

When waiting becomes difficult, turn your mind toward God’s track record in your life. Remember how He delivered you before. Remember how He provided when you didn’t know how things would work out.

God’s faithfulness in the past becomes fuel for faith in the present.

Waiting seasons often refine our character and strengthen our hope. Romans 5 teaches us that patience produces experience, and experience produces hope. That hope allows us to wait with expectation, confident that God is still at work.

And Isaiah 40:31 gives us this beautiful promise:

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength..."

Family, this week I want to challenge you to remember.

What prayer has God answered that you barely think about anymore?

What blessings have you forgotten?

What challenges has God already carried you through?

Take some time to make a list of 15–25 ways God has been faithful to you over the last year. Write down answered prayers, unexpected provisions, moments of protection, opportunities, and blessings.

Then sit with that list.

Reflect on it. Rejoice in it. Thank God for it.

As you wait for what He is doing next, remember what He has already done.

Remember God's faithfulness.
