O.P.P. Yeah I did it. For all you old school saints, take a minute to get the song out of your head. Hearts and minds out of the gutter. The O.P.P. I’m thinking of is Other People’s Prayers. Yup. Consider this: perhaps the reason you are in relationship with God is because someone prayed for you.
It could have been a family member that prayed for you. A friend that interceded on your behalf. Perhaps someone praying for the world to be saved. No matter the intercessor, someone prayed for you. Chew on that a moment. For those of us that had no one in the family that knew God, how do you explain your relationship with God? For me, I know without a doubt that someone prayed for me.
Someone introduced you to God and then prayed for your continued search for His face. The bible says in James 5:16, Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (KJV). You encountered someone with a testimony that touched you and piqued your interest to find out more about God. To begin your search for relationship with God.
I’ll prove it. Consider what Malachi says in Malachi 2:1-9. He was admonishing the priests because they besmirched the covenant God made with Levi. Yes, besmirched. An old school word that conveys the extent at which the priests offended God. They were literally leading the people away from the ways of God. They were making worship and the keeping of God’s commandments optional. Why? Because they themselves were just going about their duties as a matter of course and not out of belief.
Because Levi, feared God and walked in God’s way, God promised him peace and equity. He promised that peace and equity would extended to all who walked in the tribe of Levi. Let’s not overlook Phineas in Numbers 25:11-13. He atoned for the people and God granted him peace not only for himself but for his seed after him (vs. 13). So, when we pray for someone or if they pray for you, God will honor the request of the faithful.
Your challenge today: Pray for someone. Pray genuinely and earnestly for their eyes to be opened to the work of God in their lives. Pray that your are presented with an opportunity this week to give a word to someone that will allow them to see God at work. ~Selah
